What you'll need before you start

  • Your 12-digit Aadhaar number
  • Access to the mobile number currently linked to your Aadhaar (to receive the OTP)
  • Scanned copy or clear photo of your supporting document (e.g., Passport, Voter ID, Ration Card)
  • A way to pay ₹50 online (UPI, Net Banking, Credit/Debit Card)

Step-by-step: Update address online

Login to myAadhaar

Go to myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in and click "Login". Enter your Aadhaar number, type the captcha, and enter the OTP sent to your mobile.

Select Update Aadhaar

Click on "Address Update" and then select "Update Aadhaar Online".

Tip: If you don't have proof of address in your name, you can use the Head of Family (HoF) based address update.

Enter New Details

Select "Address" and click "Proceed to Update Aadhaar". Enter your new address exactly as it appears on your supporting document.

Upload Document

Select the type of document you are uploading from the dropdown list. Upload the clear, scanned copy.

Make Payment

Pay the non-refundable fee of ₹50 using your preferred payment method.

Save the URN

You will get an Update Request Number (URN) on screen and via SMS. Save this to track your status later.

Accepted documents for address proof

You must upload a valid Proof of Address (POA). Common accepted documents include:

  • Passport
  • Voter ID Card
  • Ration Card / PDS Photo Card
  • Driving License
  • Electricity / Water / Telephone Bill (not older than 3 months)
  • Bank Statement or Passbook
  • Property Tax Receipt (not older than 1 year)

How to update mobile number

You cannot update your mobile number online. This is for security reasons. To update or add a mobile number:

  1. Locate your nearest Aadhaar Enrollment Center or Post Office.
  2. Visit the center with your Aadhaar card. No supporting documents are needed to update your mobile number.
  3. Pay the ₹50 fee at the center.
  4. Your biometrics will be authenticated, and the new number will be linked within 5-7 days.

Track your update status

Once you submit a request (online or offline), you can check its status:

  1. Go to myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in and click "Check Enrolment & Update Status".
  2. Enter your 14-digit URN (Update Request Number) or Enrolment ID.
  3. Enter the captcha and click "Submit".
